Friday, 22nd October 2022 In Rukomo Sector/Nyagatare District, Under MakeWay program FAWE Rwanda with collaborative partner Hope Iwacu Initiative celebrated International Day of the Girl Child.

FAWE Rwanda with the support from FAWE Regional Secretariat has been implementing the #MakeWay Project, a 5-year program whose mandate is to mobilize CSOs to advocate for the rights of marginalized youth with compounded vulnerabilities to claim & exercise their Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights.

In collaboration with Hope Iwacu Initiative and FAWE Rwanda, Several dialogues were organized in GS Rukomo to assist young girls to understand and exercise their sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) during the celebration of International Girl Child Day.

In his remarks, ES of Rukomo Sector, Nyagatare District, Mr. Paulin Ntirenganya welcomed all guests and appreciated FAWE Rwanda & Hope Iwacu partnership. He pledged a continuous collaboration with all stakeholders in tackling issues related to SRHRs.

The celebration was marked by traditional dances and performing arts that emphasized around the theme "My Health, My Dignity". Inequalities experienced by girls ; teen pregnancies, and drug abuse are among the topics covered.

Addressing her closing remarks, FAWE Rwanda Founding & Board Member Dr. Christine Gasingirwa thanked all officials from Nyagatare District & Rukomo Sector, stakeholders, and GS Rukomo students. The celebration ended with a scholastic support package for the most vulnerable 40 girls identified in Rukomo school.
